Most of canal paintings are painted in the studio from my own photographs and sketches made when I am boating. The camera selects a fixed moment, I use my creative imagination to transform the information into live paintings!

I have long had a fascination with the Birmingham Canal Navigations and love interpreting the interplay between buildings, sky and water. Some of the paintings are more narrative, with figures and boats, reflecting my love of the working boats and the history of the cut.
