About Sarah
I was one of those children who draw on everything and anything – before I could read,
I was trying to draw. In middle age I had the chance to go to Art College.
I was given a place at what was then Exeter College of Art and Design where I studied for a BA hons in Fine Art,
Graduating in 1989.
Although I specialised in sculpture at college,
since graduating painting has overtaken all else and set me off on a lifetime of learning and exploring it.

About the paintings
I work with oil paint and use a range of primary colours alongside a few delicious earth colours and mix everything I need from those. After a certain amount of experimenting with supports I prepare my own boards and size or prime them myself. I also prepare my own medium.
I have many areas of interest including a life long passion for canals, so they often crop up as subject matter in my paintings. I studied the figure extensively while I was at Art College, and gradually more figures are appearing in my paintings.
Most of my canal paintings are done in the studio from drawings developed from my extensive collection of photographs.
However I love drawing and painting from ‘life’ and as well as making tiny paintings out in the landscape, have fairly recently,
started to work on ‘still lifes’ set up in the studio. I think of them as my ‘kitchen pictures’ as they are a celebration of the
glory of everyday domestic objects and activities.
I also belong to a small local portrait group which meets once a week to work from life.
I do hope you enjoy my website. Most of the work shown is for sale so please contact me by email or snailmail if you are interested in buying.
